There is Always Something (2026)

Instrumentation: String Orchestra

Duration: 13'

Commissioned by the Tel Aviv Soloists Ensemble

“There is Always Something” for string orchestra is built in two contrasting sections.

The first section explores the fast pace of modern life—there is always something to achieve, there is always something that needs to be done, there is always something to improve. It is characterized by an asymmetrical repetition of a short, simple motif. The orchestration, range, and rhythmic patterns contribute to a constant build-up. The persistent restlessness refers to the influence of social media on our daily lives and to the high level of stimulation we develop as a result of our addiction to it—there is always something to entertain us, there is always something to worry about, there is always something to distract us.

When the intensity reaches its peak and the tension becomes unbearable, the motif transforms into an
imitation of birdsong and the atmosphere shifts completely. Here begins the second part of the piece, carryinga message—there is always something we can do to reset, calm down, and return to ourselves. This section is minimalistic and meditative. It makes us forget what came before, compelling us to breathe, to be satisfied with simple things, to enjoy the sonorities, and to return to our thoughts without trying to escape.

The piece ends with a long chord, carrying the hope that we can always find inner peace.
