The piece brings together different musical worlds: influences of classical music, touches of rhythm and pulse drawn from indie pop, and a melody with shifting patterns that evokes a folk song, without imitating one.
The short fanfare takes the form of A–B–A: a fast and energetic opening, a slower and more melodic middle section, and a return to the energy of the opening, but transformed.
Harmonically, the piece moves between Dorian and whole-tone scales, exploring their contrasting colors and allowing them to coexist. The final pitch suggests, perhaps, that despite our differences, there is always something we have in common.
